Inspired by childhood heroes Bob Ross
and Commander Mark, David approaches his work with equal parts irreverence
and respect. His character-driven style is a quirky blend of Mexican
folk art, 1950s cartoon-cell animation, traditional tattoo imagery,
and pure Southern California lowbrow.
David's Day of the Dead art
highlights classic elements of the annual celebration, but also injects
humor into the religious symbolism through the use of bold lines and
exaggerated features. And while his Tiki art steers clear of
traditional themes and harnesses the camp and color inherent
of the tiki culture itself, his Lowbrow art pays homage to everything
from Greek mythology to old monster movies with flesh-eating horses,
Frankenstein sculptures, skateboarding zombies, and skeleton robots.
Subtle details are fused into every
Lozeau piece and, whether melding mediums on recycled surfaces, exploring
Dia motifs, hand-carving tikis, or designing custom tattoos, David creates
oddities that reveal his unique perspective on life, death, and all
the gory stuff in between.
David Lozeau has promoted and exhibited works in more than 50 shows on three continents. He has been featured in several Southern California publications, like San Diego's "North County Times," Anaheim's "Lowrider Arte" magazine, Orange County's "OC Weekly," and Jesse James Long Beach-based "Garage" magazine, in addition to several international monthlies, like England's "Pinstriping & Kustom Graphics Magazine," Italy's "KustomGarage.it," and Australia's "DEADBEAT" magazine.
I'm really excited to be included in an awesome new hardcover book alongside some of the best lowbrow, tattoo, pulp, monster, hot rod, and skull artists in the world. Looking through Kustom Graphics 2: Hot Rods, Burlesque and Rock-n-Roll is like flipping through my personal inspiration folder!
I have a few of these beauties on hand, so to make things interesting, I will personalize a drawing inside the front cover of every book purchased on my site. For $100, you get the book and an original piece of art (a drawing typically starts at $100 by itself). It makes a fun gift and/or a nice addition to a collection. Order your customized copy HERE
