The Spirit Horse gallops across the plains in defiance of his vaquero captors and the rules of mortality.
* The legend of the Spirit Horse, passed on orally from generation to generation, depicts a wild steed that was wrangled by a group of professional mustangers. The horse refused to accept food or water from them and eventually died, but Indians from Mexico to Southern Canada claimed to have seen the ghost stallion running across the plains in the moonlight until the mid 1900s. *
Painting Process
The 30 x 15 canvas was painted with various teal and brown acrylics, the underpainting was created with gouache, and then the fine details were painted with custom-mixed teal enamel.
The wood frame was constructed, aged, and stained by Lozeau to create a rustic, Southwest look with custom-made, rusty metal details in the corners, bringing the total measure to 43 x 21.
