El Picador

El Picador is a brave, skilled matador on horseback, but that's before the point of impact...

Painting Process
The canvas was first painted with rust brown and moss green acrylics to create a robust, yet quiet backdrop for the matador and bull, the underpainting was created with various colors of gouache, and then the fine line work and details were painted with a custom-mixed green enamel.

As with the other two pieces in this matador triptych (La Matadora and Matador de Toros), David constructed, aged, and stained a wood frame to complement the style, color, and tone of the painting and mimic the form of an old bullfighting playbill.

Canvas Prints
The ready-to-hang El Picador canvas prints are produced with archival ink on museum-grade, gallery-wrapped canvas and extend 1.25 inches off the wall, so there's no need for a frame. There are several sizes available and each limited-edition giclee is signed and numbered out of only 40 Artist Proofs. Please allow up to three weeks for delivery of canvas prints, as they are custom-built at the time the order is placed.
