Fiesta en Old Town

The skeleton dancers spin in unison to the rhythmic and festive sounds of Old Town.

Painting Process
The 24 x 36 canvas was first painted with alternating orange and yellow acrylics to allow the lighter tones to shine through the darker ones and create a warm backdrop for the dancing señoritas. Then, brown acrylics were used to establish the Old Town cityscape, which is comprised of small, rustic buildings and sparse desert landscaping.

The skeleton women were painted with various colors of gouache to highlight their vibrant folklórico dresses, and then all of the line work was painted with 1 Shot Enamel.

The custom wood frame was constructed out of rusty, pitted farm equipment by David Lozeau and then lightly sanded and clear stained to match the personality and era in which Historic Old Town San Diego was established. The total measurement of the piece to 36.5 x 53.
