Matador de Toros

Not to ruin the ending for you, but the bull never really wins.

Painting Process
Alternating electric red and hazy grey-blue acrylics were layered atop the canvas to create a frantic background, various shades of gouache were used create the underpainting, and then the bull and matador were heavily detailed with a custom-mixed blue enamel to cool off the reds.

As with the other two pieces in this matador triptych (La Matadora and El Picador), David constructed, aged, and stained a wood frame to complement the style, color, and tone of the painting and mimic the form of an old bullfighting playbill.

Canvas Prints
The ready-to-hang Matador de Toros canvas prints are produced with archival ink on museum-grade, gallery-wrapped canvas and extend 1.25 inches off the wall, so there's no need for a frame. Please allow up to three weeks for delivery of canvas prints, as they are custom-built at the time the order is placed.
