Black Ogre Kachina

$100.00

Kachina (aka, Katsina) dolls and legends were used to teach young Hopi Indians about the immortal beings who controlled the natural world. To keep children in line, an uncle or another male in the Hopi Tribe would visit homes with families dressed up as Nataska (Nata-aska, an Ogre Kachina), whip a saw or large knife around, dance wildly, and warn that if the children behaved badly, he would return to eat or kidnap them.

Canvas Prints
The ready-to-hang Black Ogre Kachina canvas prints are produced with archival ink on museum-grade, gallery-wrapped canvas and extend 1.5 inches off the wall, so there's no need for a frame. There are several sizes available and each limited-edition giclee is signed and numbered out of only 40 Artist Proofs. Please allow up to three weeks for delivery of canvas prints, as they are custom-built at the time the order is placed.
