She looks like a beautiful flamenco dancer from the front, but she's got a little secret...
An 18 x 36 cradled clayboard was painted with light blue enamel and then accented with darker blue filigree at the top and bottom to achieve a simple, feminine background. The surface was flash dried to create a rough texture and then painted with brown acrylics to create an aged feel.
The underpainting for the traditional, yet deadly bailarína was created with white and red gouache and then all of the line work was painted with a custom, complementary blue enamel.
The custom dual frame built by David combines woods that were routered, aged, painted, stripped, and stained to take on the appearance of an old-timey headboard. The painting was then permanently mounted inside to become a unified piece that measures 20 x 46.
