Ace of The Kicking Mules

$40.00

Upon entry into WWI, US pilots flew canvas-wrapped wooden French biplanes while remaining under American command. This Nieuport 28 with "The Kicking Mule" insignia represents one of the earliest Aero Squadrons (1st Pursuit Group) being chased by two Red Baron-like German Fokkers

Painting Process
The 36 x 18 clayboard was painted with a variety of brown acrylics, aged to achieve a crackled surface, and then repainted with blue acrylics to separate the upper and lower sky. Gouache was used to create the underpainting and then 1 Shot enamel was used to finely detail the skeleton pilot and his aircraft.

The frame was handmade by Lozeau with new wood and new military green canvas, revealing certain parts of the exoskeleton to mimic the damage on the battered biplane. The wrapped canvas was then aged, burned, and adorned with metal rivets to complete the look.

Paper Prints
The 18 x 12 Ace of The Kicking Mules prints are produced with archival ink on glossy paper and are perfect for those of you who prefer to frame your art.
